Always and Forever Lara Jean: A Beautiful Conclusion to a Beautiful Trilogy

P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever Lara Jean by Jenny Han

I absolutely LOVE this trilogy. Surprisingly, I don’t think I’ve ever really talked about it on my blog, but hey, I DO. IT’S GREAT. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before started out as a standalone, I believe, and then P.S. I Still Love You became a thing, so I preordered that from Amazon. And then Always and Forever Lara Jean became a thing and I saw it in a bookstore, had a mini-freakout, and proceeded to buy it for the fortune that it cost. THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL but now of course I need the first one to match. I KNOW, I’VE BOUGHT INTO THE COVER OBSESSION.

Anyhoo, as for the actual books.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before had such an interesting and different premise from anything I’ve ever read before, with Lara Jean writing letters to old loves. It was amazing because of the concept (among other things, of course).

P.S. I Still Love You was all about Peter and Lara Jean’s relationship and how it was built. It was wonderful and sweet because they are SO CUTE OMG.

Always and Forever, Lara Jean is about the after. What happens when life starts to move forward? When things don’t quite go the way you’ve planned? Time keeps moving and people keep changing, whether you want them to or not. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, sometimes it’s heartbreaking. No matter what, you just have to learn to live with it, and that’s what growing up’s all about.

The plot of this book is genius. Since a lot of book series end when the main conflict is resolved (I wonder why), we don’t often see the aftermath of new romances and just moving on with life in general. Although usually I don’t like it when authors add on books to a series (It’s usually for marketing purposes and I feel like the story has already been told), Jenny Han did it really well. She actually came up with plausible stories for both of the sequels, and both were done extremely well.

As for the feel of the story, can I just say, I LOVE the feel of Jenny Han’s writing? She has this awesome, casual, carefree way of writing. It is so realistic and heartfelt and it makes you feel like things are happening even when they aren’t. It’s beautiful and summery and I JUST WANT TO REREAD THEM OKAY.

I thought the character development was perfect because it was flawed. Maybe that seems backwards, but it was so realistically flawed that it was perfect. I completely felt Lara Jean’s struggle with accepting how everyone else in her life was moving on, and not understanding what she wanted to do with her life. It was an accurate representation of how her character would have reacted and felt as different things happened, and I really enjoyed the experience!

Overall rating: 5/5 stars to the beautiful ending of an amazing series!

Whew, that went by fast! I hope you guys enjoyed this short little review. Let me know if you’ve read this series, or anything else by Jenny Han! I’ve read the first two books of her “We’ll Always Have Summer” series, but I haven’t gotten around to the third yet. Anyhoo, thanks for reading!

Lots of Love, Amy ❀
