SO EVERYBODY! COME JOIN ME!!! (Warning: much capitalization, bolding, italization, freaking out, and just generally squealiness is bound to happen here.) It has been almost three weeks (yes that was an admission of neglecting… *shame*) since anybody mentioned or did Recently Finished Friday!!! (For any new readers, or just plain anyone who missed it, Recently Finished Friday is the latest feature here at Every Book You Need To Read and More!) Why am I still bolding everything? *shrug* By the way, I am aware that it isn’t Friday. I kept thinking Friday was Thursday, and I was very busy Saturday. Sunday this post got started. Now it is Thursday again, and therefore this post is both late and early! I think? Either way, I have to wish you all a…
So…. Let’s move on. TO THE RULES!!!!!
- What’s the title and author of your book? Cover image optional, but preferred. Please include a link to the Goodreads synopsis if you can.
- How long ago did you finish your book? (So we can see how fresh your feels are.) If you can’t remember, that’s okay.
- On a scale of one to ten, what would you rate your book?
- What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about your book? If you loved everything about your book, just say so.
- LET THE RANTS BEGIN!
Okay. So. This isn’t scary. Not at all. (THIS IS SCARY) Why is this not scary, you ask? Because I have to answer all those questions. Not once, oh no. Whaaaaaaaat? Amy read two books??? Uh uh! Not twice either? Three times!!! That’s right, guys, I finished THREE books in four days! (This was a group of days, like, a week ago…) Round of applause, anyone? Anyone at all? No? Alright then…. We better get started if you want this post to end today.
“You know, people wouldn’t take you for a dullard if your mouth didn’t hang open like that. Close it, and maybe they’ll think you’re a prince.”
Book 1
- The Silver Bowl by Diane Stanley-
- Friday. It was pretty recent.
- Ooooo, this is the toughie. I would probably have to say a 7.6. I’ll explain why in the rant.
- Oh! Well, my favorite is probably how easy it is to read. I mean, some books are rather complicated and you have to look at everything twice, but the writing is usually very simple. That also brings us to my least favorite thing, which is the writing as well. Although it is rather easy and makes for a quick read, the writing is also a bit immature. However, I don’t entirely hate it because it portrays the character very accurately. (She is illiterate)
- This story, like I mentioned, is a light read (kind of ironic with the amount of gore) set in a world which I hope is nothing like Earth today. Molly is very young when the story starts, seven I believe, and she is whipped by her father and sent off to the castle. The father sends all the children off in this manner and generally they never see him or each other again. The mother, on the other hand, stays in bed all the time because she is considered mad. Come to find out, she isn’t really so bad, but she passes away very soon in the story. When Molly gets to the castle, she is put to work as a scullery maid with almost no possessions save the necklace her mother gave her and a couple sets of clothes. She makes friends there, Tobias the donkey boy and Winifred, and later becomes the silver polisher’s assistant. At first she is barely trusted, but as time goes by she is allowed to polish more and more until finally she polishes everything except the silver bowl. Now, rumors said that the royal family was cursed, but the average person didn’t believe it. However, Winifred did, and she was always trying to convince Molly of it too. Eventually Molly begins to believe her, and well, you’ll have to read the book to find what comes next. This is a fantasy set in medieval times where anything can happen. I would personally recommend it and the rest of the series as well, but I do rate it a 7.6 because of the writing style and sometimes there is confusion.
Ugh. Terrible rant there. I’m sorry!
“…stupid and strong, the perfect donkey boy.”
“Why do they call you that? You don’t work with donkeys, or any other animals, so far as I can see.”
He laughed. “I’m the donkey, didn’t you know? I haul and carry.”
And suddenly I wasn’t angry anymore.
Book 2
- The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan-
“The guy reeked like moldy garlic pizza wrapped in gym shorts.”
- I believe it was… Friday, actually. So four days.
“…it was a little humiliating to be slower than a tree.”
- (What does the infinity sign look like??????) Um. Really? Like, 13!
“…Chiron was now standing in full horse-man form, holding his bow high in salute. Just your typical summer-camp send-off by your typical centaur.”
- I lurve EVERYTHING!!! Or if I don’t, I cannot seem to recall why on Earth not.
“‘I’m not saying hello to a pink poodle.,’ I said. ‘Forget it.’ ‘Percy,’ Annabeth said. ‘I said hello to the poodle. You say hello to the poodle.’ The poodle growled. I said hello to the poodle.”
- Ranty ranty rant rant RANT RANT RANT!!! Okay, come on guys, pretty much everyone has read this book. Except for this one kid… (A family friend’s boyfriend’s son. Yeah, that’s not confusing or anything.) Seriously though! I made a reference to Percy Jackson and he didn’t even know what I was talking about! He’d never even heard of it what is this nonsense. This was actually my third time reading this I think, and it was still amazing! So if you haven’t, go read it. Okay, basically what I’m saying is that I’m not going to rant. Sorry for the disappointment. But you CAN enjoy some quotes! (Lots and lots)
“…when we went to the Sartoga battlefield, I had this accident with a revolutionary war cannon. I wasn’t aiming for the school bus, but of course I got expelled anyway.”
“‘Safety from what? Who’s after me?’ ‘Oh, nobody much,’ Grover said, obviously still miffed about the donkey comment. ‘Just the Lord of the Dead and a few of his blood-thirstiest minions.'”
Classic Annabeth:
“‘…What happened?’ ‘I sort of fell.’ ‘Percy! Six hundred and thirty feet?'”
“‘Why can’t you place a blessing like that on us?’ I asked. ‘It only works on wild animals.’ ‘So it would only affect Percy,’ Annabeth reasoned.”
“I imagined she was going to say, You killed a minotaur! or Wow, you’re so awesome! or something like that. Instead she said, ‘You drool when you sleep.'”
Book 3
Last but not least, Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas!
“There was something great and deadly concealed within her, and he didn’t like it. He’d be ready- when the time came, he’d be waiting. He just wondered which one of them would survive.”
No link here! Why go to the Goodreads synopsis when you can just click on this link to see our review? 😉 I finished this one just today. I’m not about to contradict the review, so it’s an 11.9 out of 10! One of my favorite things about ToG that I didn’t get the first time through was all the references to Celaena’s past adventures and her actual identity.
“She became all too aware of the three long scars down her back. Even if she won her freedom…even if she lived in peace in the countryside…those scars would always remind her of what she’d endured. And that even if she was free, others were not.”
Since the first time I read it, I have read the rest of the series and The Assassin’s Blade, so I really appreciated that. Of course, it’s always fun to go back to Chaol and Dorian! As far as least favorites go, I don’t really think I have one. Again, I won’t really have a rant here as we had one in the review. But guys… Anyone who’s read The Assassin’s Blade will cry with me here:
“When she awoke every morning, she repeated the same words: I will not be afraid. For a year, those words had meant the difference between breaking and bending; they had kept her from shattering in the darkness of the mines.”
*sob* I miss him… *pulls self together* Anyway. Celaena is a reader, so I did pull a couple bits about that. I have three altogether, and you can see the first at the end of this post. The other two I will add to the next two posts and maybe get on Instagram for once! Woohoo! Did you hear that, guys? I might actually use social media! YAY ME!!!!! Oh, come on, it’s Thanksgiving. (It is for me; my sincere apologies if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. You can still be thankful and happy, right? XD) Have a heart! SMILEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! There it is! These three books bring me ever closer to the end of rereads week/month. It pretty much turned into the month, eh?
Okay, to be perfectly honest with you guys, this post has been in my drafts for a long… long… long… time…. It needs to be posted! You all miss me! (Just go with it; it will be faster and more painless) So goodbye for now and lots of thanks for bearing with me throughout this utterly odd post!
What are you guys all thinking about Recently Finished Friday? Is there anyone interested in joining in? Has anyone heard of Diane Stanley or The Silver Bowl? Do you plan on reading it? Are you one of those crazy people who hasn’t read The Lightning Thief yet? You have to talk to me! I must convince you! Who’s read Throne of Glass? Have you read The Assassin’s Blade as well? You need to. You will cry. It is an important life experience. Did I make you smile? You better say yes! Is this paragraph annoying you now that I have no good questions? Tell me that too! I love you guys; you know I always enjoy hearing from you!
(P.S. I technically also just finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets… Maybe you’ll be seeing me again tomorrow, eh? Hey, I heard that groan!)
You know, that quote about the poodle — me and my best friend were just discussing it 2 days back! It was one of those times when some random quote enters my mind just like that and I speak it out and then we have a cool big bookish discussion — YAAYY!! 😀

Haha. It’s one of my favorites! Unfortunately, “cool big bookish discussions” do not happen often for me. Nikki is pretty much my only bookish friend!

I have, um, only two friends who are actually “bookish” in the true sense of the word. Only with them are the cool big bookish discussions possible. With other people, the ‘discussions’ are more like one-sided rants that the person on the other side has to tolerate. 😛
Oh, you shouldn’t worry too much about that — Nikki is pretty much five people in one, what with the amount of bubbly enthusiasm floating around in her. 😉

YAYYYYYYYY!!! Nikki is amazing. XD

I figured. 😦 Still, it is good to give thanks! And turkey is yummy! (Not really; I usually go for the stuffing and pie first)

When do you usually have your lunch?

Noonish and by that time it was nearly one.

Wow. Noonish. Seriously. Here at my home no one has lunch before three or at least two-thirty.

Ah, well you see… During the summer that is the norm for me too, but in the school year we are forced to eat very early.

Nah, I’m sincerely consistent in my awesome (not) lateness.

The first 2 books are the BEST IN THE UNIVERSE. :’) I particularly love how Celaena loves cake and is so badass aaaand likes pretty clothes. AND LIKES PUPPIES> She is perfect. ❤

Wow, loving this blog all around! Hey Amy, I’m Robin. Your blog is awesome and so is your love for books. I share your interest in the Harry Potter series esp. the Sorcerer’s Stone, yep and watched the same recently. Good to know you’re a Hufflepuff. How’s all at Hogwarts? All fine? Love the Halloweeny theme, by the way. Good luck to your blog. See you around

Obviously the crazy people who haven’t read Percy yet just haven’t heard of it yet 😉 WE JUST NEED TO SUBTLY THROW THE BOOKS AT THEM UNTIL THEY READ THEM (except we shouldn’t harm books…)

Haha. Perhaps we just need to put the entire series in a box and wrap it up all purty for Christmas (or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or whatever- the point is the gift lol)!
