The Reader’s Problem’s Tag is a tag in which us readers express our problems. Thanks so much to Michelle (The Writing Hufflepuff) for nominating us! Go check out her blog! (After you read ours. Hehe.) Let’s get started!
“You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?”
A: AAAAAACCCKKK!!!! 20,000 books? I hope not! That would take me a lifetime to finish. Anyway, to answer the question, I would just start with the books I had added first. And I would have to not even look at other books! Wouldn’t want to add to the crazy number…
N: Honestly, I pretty much do already. I literally have like forty books in my book basket right now, with new holds from the library coming in every day. Even I can’t read that fast. 😉 So to decide which to read next, I usually lay out all of my books (this takes really long time), and narrow it down to a smaller number, and then, I go with my gut and pick the one I really, super-duper want to read the most. Then, I go from there.
“You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or commit?”
A: Commit. Every time. Why, you may ask? Well, maybe it’ll get better later on, but even the books that I know just get worse I keep reading. I don’t like to leave loose ends. However, if I didn’t like the book I probably wouldn’t keep going with the series.
N: Depends on how horrible it is. 99.9% of the time I’ll commit, but sometimes the book is horrible I’ll burn it. (Just kidding, I would ever do that, even if it is a waste of paper.) Most of the time I’ll actually end up liking the book. I’ve only ever read a few books that I didn’t really love, so I don’t have much experience in this area.
“The end of the year is coming and you’re so close yet so far away on your GoodReads challenge. Do you quit or commit?”
A: Oh man. Absolutely commit. After all, there’s no way I’ll stop reading for the rest of the year. If it really gets close, I’ll cheat and read shorter books!
N: Of course I commit. Why would I quit? I still love reading the books and I’ll do it because I enjoy it. Deadlines are stupid.
“The covers of a series you love DO. NOT. MATCH. How do you cope?”
A: Ugh.
‘Nuff said.
N: I don’t. I scream like a banshee, unleash a river of tears, and fold into myself like a hermit. Not really, but I’m still really upset. I’ll usually talk to Amy about it because that always makes me feel better.
“Everyone and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?”
A: Nikki. We almost never have different opinions when it comes to books.
N: Amy. We almost never have different opinions about anything. Except for maybe fashion… come to think if it, we’re really different, and we don’t fight too much. (I can count the number of times we’ve fought on my fingers.) Anyway, you probably don’t want to hear our life story, but my point is: Amy is my best friend and I tell her everything, especially when it comes to book problems.
“You’re reading a book and you’re about to start crying in public. How do you deal?”
A: Um, sorry, but I can’t relate. I’m never in this situation. I’ve been told I have no heart. Seriously, my fingernails are always blue and I didn’t cry reading Allegiant. I cry inwardly. It’s a skill.
N: If I really need to cry, I’ll do it. I’d rather cry than have a big lump in my throat all day. This happens to me I lot. Like, a lot. I don’t really care what people think of me, and I’m crying for a good cause. If people stare at me, I’ll stare back. If they ask me why I’m crying, I’ll tell them. It’s no big deal.
“A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re – read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a summary on GoodReads? Cry in frustration?”
A: Um, probably just stumble through. Yep, that’s it.
N: Same as Amy. This happened to me during The Heroes of Olympus series and the Lunar Chronicles. I mean, I would have to wait a year for the next installment, so by then I’d forgotten all about it. I hated it so much, but eventually I regained all my memories.
“You don’t want ANYONE borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people “nope” when they ask?”
A: This is totally my situation! Actually, I never say no. I just say like, “Yeah, you can borrow it sometime!” They eventually just forget about it.
N: The kids at my school don’t read, like at all, so I don’t usually stumble upon this type of situation. So… yeah.
“You’ve picked up and put down five different books in the past month. How do you get over the reading slump?”
A: Slumps are the worst! *slumps* Usually I watch a whole lot of Drop Dead Diva and then I try picking up an easy read.
N: Like, Amy, I usually do something else. That something else is usually watching T.V. Or listening to music. There’s nothing Fall Out Boy or Sleeping with Sirens Fortunately, I’ve only ever had a few of these slumps and they usually pass quickly. The cure is a good book you’ve been dying to read, or a classic you’ve read over and over again.
“There are so many new books coming out that you are dying to read! How many do you actually buy?”
A: I’d love to say all of them. But there’s not enough money in the world. No, I’m a big supporter of the library. But I also buy the top three.
N: My dad says I can’t buy anymore books because I already have so many, therefore I am also a huge supporter of the library. If Amy buys some books I want to read, I’ll borrow them effective immediately.
“After you’ve bought a new book you want to get to, how long does it sit on your shelf until you actually read it?”
A: Um… I usually buy two books per trip to Barnes and Noble. (I live in a smallish town) Often, I read the first on the way home (I enjoy spending the day with my mom) and the second… well, maybe two months later it will get read?
N: I’m going to change that to “After I check a new book out from the library I want to get to, how long does it sit in my book bin until I actually read it?” Well, it depends on how many books I already have.

I’m sort of feeling offended/ amazingly flattered. Wow, that’s a weird combination. Is Amy really more noticeable than I am? Is Amy the people’s choice? Am I just the background accompaniment to her radiantness?!?! Anyway… I realize I don’t explore WordPress and all these great blogs as nearly as Amy does and as nearly as I should, but I didn’t realize it made people sort of forget about me. From now on, I well be looking at all these fantastic blogs more often! Katherine, thank you for your compliment. I was sick today and you just made my day! Congrats! Give the girl a prize! You win… a brand new car! Just kidding, but anything I’d give you a brand new book since that’s better… I’m getting distracted by the thought of books. Anyway, Katherine I really hope you see this and respond, you lovely human green being, you. I must go because I’m going to go check out your blog now!

Hahaha!!! I’m very sorry i’ve caused such an emotional Roller coaster!! I was complimenting you both, I promise. You are BOTH equally great(happy?)! Even though if you’re the one giving out prizes(book or car…I wouldn’t say no to either) maybe I should have a favourite. Haha! So, just letting you know you definitely have your own ‘radiantness’ and thank you for the laughs. Katherine. Ps oh, and I hope you get well soon!

Hehe. Well… I do enjoy making people jealous of my friendship… Hehe. Just kidding! I love everybody!!! I was taking a test today and it’s a long story but I felt like God tapped me on the shoulder. So I’m happy right now and nothing happier than someone dying or becoming fatally ill could make me stop smiling! (And btw she scares me too. Hehe.) 🙂

Loving everyone IS SO tiring. Honestly, my face started to hurt ten minutes ago. (After I returned from playing tennis and remembered I had meant to be happy) Thanks! I hope so too!

Yep! I’m okay with tennis; it depends on what age group you compare me with. I’m kind of in between. I’m incredible compared to the lower age group, and so-so compared to the older group. But it’s very fun, and lots of good exercise! Hehe. And in turn I will check yours (btw you can hopefully expect a top ten Tuesday post!). 😉 Goodnight! (Nikki is early to bed and early up too. She’s long gone…)

Thanks so much! (This is amy now) We really appreciate the comments. We love feedback! You did offend Nikki a little (I’m sure not on purpose) and she feels a little left out. A little help – (she doesn’t always take my word for it) and tell her she’s noticed too? 🙂

Thanks so much for the tag! I can’t relate to crying on books either, much less in public. Like Amy, I’m heartless that way. Reading slumps are the worst thing ever, I usually read my favorite book quotes and then I pick up an easy read too.
Great answers. 🙂

Of course! I hope you have a good time with it, and I’ll check back to see what you say! I like the quotes idea; I’ll try it when I have another slump! (Hopefully never, but that’s just not likely…) Thanks!

I feel like people don’t understand how many problems we face when we read. Like what if it’s too hot and you need to turn on the fan, but the pages of the book keep flopping around? Or if we need to eat, but we also want to read. So many problems, but I guess that’s what we deal with for what we love. 🙂

No kidding! Hahaha I have both of those problems ALL THE TIME! (not to mention the numerous others) Very true! The things we truly love in life are worth all the obstacles it may take to get there. 🙂
